Taking care of rapid colostrum intake

Because hypothermic pigs

  • require more time after birth to ingest adequate colostrum
  • generally ingest less colostrum

Be aware of:

  • Birth weight and vitality of piglets at birth
  • Imminent energy supply
    TIP: Splitnursing
  • Avoiding disturbing interventions i.e. vaccinations during the first days of life
